This massive sea turtle crawled on shore in search of the safety of a fresh sun bath. The green sea turtle is a delicate creature dressed in scales, covering head to toe. A relic of the past they serve a reminder of distant dinosaur ancestors. Hawaiian Honu travel miles to the French Frigate Shoals to nest and lay their eggs. These curious sea watchers were the first guide to the Hawaiian islands. Often a subject of cultural legend, but the gentle creatures only recently started coming back ashore. This is probably because they feel safer than in the water. Just one of the many interesting sights to photograph in Hawaii. 

Watching the Firemen drop 50 feet from a zipline is amazing. These firefighters practice on the North Shore of Oahu for emergency situations. The mountain in the background reflects the wild technique involved in pulling off this stunt naturally. It’s unimaginable the adrenaline one must feel while hanging on to life by a thread. This must be a lot of fun.

Why is Hawaii good? It is after all too far from the rest of the world. Not to mention completely surrounded by a body of water so immense it could be described as enormous. In any matter it is by far a waking force and presence of many natural beauties. Rippling beyond imaginations deepest fathoms this blue marble is entirely a cause of natures rolling tongue. Hawaii’s true natural vibrance aside from organic swagger is the blessings of cultural infusion far beyond any unknowing comprehensions. Like a melting pot ideal, on steroids. Hawaii’s cultural influence is subtle, overpowering and unmistaken. It can be easily misidentified by anyone who has never seen it with their own senses. Without knowing it in real life, one could easily be disillusioned by the less than lustrous; epitome of a dream-like barbiturate useful only as a carrot incentive to work a common goal for an escape so pure but not absorbable at a mere glimpse. Like so many delicacies that are tried and forgotten. The true flavor of life in Hawaii is the locals. The locals that live, breath and die bringing the fruits to fire rock, that provides beyond any one person, the life worth living on the most remote location on Earth. These people are the true warriors of Hawaii.

This photo from Hawaii looks like the savannah. This was a fun landscape experiment with a toy camera technique. The landscape came out looking great, even without processing. In the background there is a clear sight all the way down Oahu’s west side over the Nanakuli and Maili beaches. This park is somewhat abandoned and occasionally filled with houseless residents of Waianae. There might be a sharks nest around here and maybe a pot of gold too…

BBQing in Hawaii is the preferred method of cooking. The flavor is much better. With just Some Portuguese sausage, bratwurst, chicken and ahi a great BBQ can be started in no time. In Hawaii the outdoors and the grill make a great family event for all kinds of friends and family show up for fresh grinds and some ono pupu. 

This is the far leeward side of Oahu. The reef here is pretty nice. There is great boogie boarding by the tiny island in the center of the photograph. The water is shallow but a good barrel will take you right into the beach. In the distance is Mauna Lahi Lahi. A twenty minute hike to the top.

The sea spray from where I was standing was drenching me. I followed up this shot with a nice dip in the reef pools. This particular reef has many sea urchins living on the side walls. Which makes getting in and out a difficult task. Not enough to stop me. 

This photo is from Sunset Beach on North Shore, Hawaii. The sun is setting and the days surf is almost done. This is the home of Pipeline and the famous Sunset main break known for it’s 15 foot swells.

Another very hot day in Hawaii. 

This is another picture from inside Waimea Falls. The trails wind to through the park with lots of interesting jungle fauna. It is one of the most relaxing places on Oahu.

Ukes is a popular instrument in Hawaii. Anyone can play an ukulele. Some better than others. ;)  This is a cheap uke but really good ones go for thousands of dollars.

Cactus survive very well on the leeward side of Oahu island. Leeward is known to be the driest part of Oahu and is almost desert like in the summer. With little rain fall, the summer sun beams down harsh everyday. 

This photograph is at Waimea Falls Park near Hawaii’s famous Waimea bay. The falls are a nice refreshing visit and escape from the day’s heat. The mountain, several miles away, feeds water that is very fresh and much cooler than the ocean. The brave can climb the rock and jump into the deep water in front of the falls. Nearby at Waimea Bay there is plenty of big wave surf and a great beach that is a refreshing visit too.
